Kona's Fishing Season

Fishing off of Hawaii's productive Kona Coast is good year-round. In fact, 1,000-pound marlin have been caught in our waters in every month except October and November!

January: Best for striped marlin, mahi-mahi and spearfish.

February: Best for striped marlin, spearfish and mahi-mahi.

March: Best for striped marlin, spearfish and mahi-mahi.

April: Best for striped marlin, spearfish and mahi-mahi; good for blue marlin, yellowfin and big eye tuna.

May: Best for striped marlin, spearfish, yellowfin and big eye tuna; good for blue marlin, swordfish and wahoo.

June: Best for blue, black and striped marlin, spearfish, swordfish, yellowfin and big eye tuna and wahoo.

July: Best for blue and black marlin, swordfish, yellowfin and big eye tuna and wahoo.

August: Best for blue and black marlin and wahoo; good for yellowfin and big eye tuna.

September: Best for black marlin; good for blue marlin and wahoo.

October: Good for blue marlin and mahi-mahi.

November: Best for mahi-mahi; good for blue marlin.

December: Best for striped marlin, mahi-mahi and spearfish.

These trends can fluctuate based on our ocean currents and changes in climatic conditions.
